Connect external accounts

Account holders can connect an external bank account to Highnote for funds transfers. This guide provides an overview of external bank accounts and steps for connecting an external account from the dashboard in the test environment. 

Overview

Highnote has partnered with Plaid and Finicity to provide secure, NACHA-compliant options for verifying and linking external bank accounts to a Highnote account. Account holders can use Plaid or Finicity to connect their external bank account and seamlessly transfer funds via ACH between their Highnote financial account and their external bank account. 

The following types of external accounts can be connected to an account holder's Highnote account: 

  • Non-verified: An external account that has not been verified and can only be used to transfer funds out of Highnote
  • Verified: An external account that has been verified through Plaid or Finicity and can be used to transfer funds in and out of Highnote

There are two methods for transferring funds using an external account. The following table outlines the transfer types and whether they require account verification through Plaid or Finicity:

Connect verified account

Note: Configuring Plaid and Fincity requires the assistance of a developer. To set up your Plaid or Finicity account, see the Connect External Accounts developer guide. 

In the live environment, the account holder must initiate the connection of a verified external account. In the test environment, you can simulate connecting a verified external account. Refer to the following steps to simulate connecting a verified external account using the Highnote dashboard: 

  1. Use the dashboard search bar to search for an account holder. For tips on using the search bar, see Using the Highnote dashboard.
  2. On the account holder page, click Link Account. 
  3. From the drop-down, click Verified Bank Account.
  4. On the link account tab, choose a Provider. 
  5. Click Link Verified External Bank Account. 

Connect non-verified account

You can connect a non-verified external bank account using the dashboard in both the live and test environments. Refer to the following steps to connect a non-verified external account:

  1. Use the dashboard search bar to search for an account holder. For tips on using the search bar, see Using the Highnote dashboard.
  2. On the account holder page, click Link Account. 
  3. From the drop-down, click Non-Verified Bank Account.
  4. On the link account tab, choose an account type.
  5. Optional - Provide a name for the account. 
  6. Provide the Account Number and Routing Number. 
  7. Click Link Non-Verified External Bank Account. 

Disconnect account

Account holders can disconnect their external accounts from Highnote. Refer to the following steps to disconnect an external account using the Highnote dashboard: 

  1. Use the dashboard search bar to search for an account holder. For tips on using the search bar, see Using the Highnote dashboard.
  2. Hover over the external bank account name and click the three-dot icon. 
  3. In the drop-down, click Disconnect Account ending in XXXX. 
  4. In the pop-up window, click Disconnect.
