Table of contents
Financial accounts are Highnote accounts representing funds available for or owned by an account holder or card program. This guide provides an overview of financial accounts and their components in the Highnote dashboard.
Overview
Once an account holder's application for your card product is approved, they can be issued a financial account. A financial account represents the funds available for use.
To access an account holder's financial account from the dashboard, refer to the following steps:
- Use the dashboard search bar to search for an account holder. For tips on using the search bar, see Using the Highnote dashboard.
- Click the Financial Accounts tab and select a financial account from the list.
In the Highnote dashboard, the financial account page holds the following information:
- Status: The status of the financial account, either active or closed
- Available balance or credit: The amount of funds available for use by the account holder
- Credit limit: The credit limit for the financial account; is only displayed for financial accounts issued for a credit or charge card product
- Account holder: The account holder who owns the financial account
- Details: Details about the financial account, including a link to the account holder's application
- Authorization controls: Any spend rules or velocity controls attached to the financial account
- Ledgers: Available ledgers for the financial account
- Cards: All cards linked to the financial account
The financial account page also provides access to activity, transfers, billing statements, SCRA and MLA eligibility, and repayment history.
Ledgers
A ledger is a financial account's record of financial account activity. Financial accounts can have several different ledgers, depending on the card product vertical. The following ledger types are the most frequently available ledgers in the Highnote dashboard:
Ledger name | Description |
Cash | A ledger that tracks money movement in a financial account |
Available cash | A ledger that tracks the money available to spend in a financial account |
Credit outstanding | Used for credit and charge card products, this ledger's balance is calculated using the credit limit minus the outstanding credit balance |
Available credit | Used for credit and charge card products, this ledger tracks the available credit to spend in a financial account |
Your card product may support additional ledgers not listed in the previous table. For more information on ledgers, see Highnote ledgers.
Activity
Note: Highnote receives refunds as authorizations, clearing events, or authorization and clear events. The dashboard records a refund as the transaction type sent by the merchant. For example, if Highnote receives a refund as a clearing event, the financial account's activity page will reflect a "Clearing" transaction for the refund.
The Activity tab summarizes transaction events and transfers on a financial account. This tab includes the following sections:
- Pending: Pending account activity includes pending authorizations and reversals. If a pending event does not result in a posted transaction, it is removed from this page.
- Posted: This section displays all posted transactions and transfers.
The financial account activity page displays the following events:
Events | Displayed on activity page |
Transfers | |
Clearing events | |
Authorization and clear events | |
Authorizations | *Displayed as Pending |
Refunds | *Displayed as event type received from merchant |
Partial reversals | *Displayed as Pending |
Full reversals | ✖️ |
Verifications | ✖️ |
Full reversals and verifications do not result in money movement, so they are not reflected on the financial account activity page. To see full reversals and verifications, use the following guidance:
- For all events related to the financial account: Use the financial account's available cash or credit ledgers on the financial account Overview tab. For more information, see Highnote ledgers.
- For all transaction events for your card product: Use the Transactions page of the dashboard. For more information, see Transaction basics.
Transfers
The Transfers tab of the financial account page displays all electronic funds transfers. Available transfer types differ depending on the card product vertical. Highnote supports the following transfers for account holder financial accounts:
Transfer type | Description |
Originated ACH | Transfer that is initiated inside the Highnote platform by an account holder or card program |
Non-originated ACH | Transfer that is initiated by a third-party entity outside of Highnote, such as a financial institution or payment processor |
Scheduled | A list of scheduled transfers for the financial account |

In addition to ledgers, activity, and transfers, credit and charge card products have access to the following financial account features:
