Payment cards are financial instruments issued to account holders, allowing them to access funds in their financial accounts. This guide provides an overview of payment card types and design specifications.
Types of payment cards
You can issue three types of payment cards on the Highnote platform. The following types are supported:
- Virtual cards: Virtual cards are displayed in an app or website and used for online purchases. By default, all payment cards begin as virtual cards.
- Physical cards: Physical cards are printed cards that the cardholder can use for in-person transactions. Highnote offers on-demand and premium physical cards. For more information on on-demand and premium cards, see the Physical Cards design guide.
- Tokenized cards: Digital wallets use tokenized cards that are provisioned to the account holder’s digital wallet, such as Apple Pay or Google Wallet.
Payment card design
Before issuing a payment card, you must create a card design and have the design approved by the Highnote team. For an overview of card design requirements, see the following design guides:
