Account holder
"Account holder" refers to a person or business issued or provided use of a payment card or financial account. Highnote supports the following types of account holders:
- Business account holder
- Person account holder
Account holder application
"Account holder application" refers to the form or application used by account holders to apply for a financial account.
Authorized user
"Authorized user" refers to a person connected to an account holder authorized to use a payment card.
Card product
"Card product" broadly represents a card program and its components, including applications, financial accounts, payment cards, bank accounts, and associated transactions.
Card profile
"Card profile" refers to a Highnote feature allowing you to manage and apply card elements to a card product. Highnote supports the following types of card profiles:
- Physical card profiles
- Digital card profiles
- Virtual card profiles
Collaborative authorization
"Collaborative authorization" refers to a Highnote card product feature that allows you to approve or decline account holder transactions in real time based on business logic.
Collaborative application decisioning
"Collaborative application decisioning" refers to a Highnote card product feature that allows you to provide a recommended approval decision for card product applications based on credit policies.
Digital card
"Digital card" refers to a tokenized digital representation of a payment card that is created and managed virtually. Digital cards allow cardholders to make purchases online through digital wallets.
Document upload
"Document upload" refers to the process of account holders submitting documents to verify their identity or finances during the card product application process.
Financial event
"Financial event" refers to any event that impacts the balance of a financial account, including non-transactional events. Financial events result in a ledger entry. Highnote supports the following financial events:
- Authorization
- Authorization and clear
- Clearing
- Credit funds ACH transfer
- Debit funds ACH transfer
- Fee transfer
- Payroll ACH transfer
- Reversal
- Rewards point transfer
- Secured card balance repayment ACH transfer
- Secure deposit ACH transfer

On-demand funding
"On-demand funding" refers to the Highnote card product feature that provides the ability to instantly add funds to an account holder's financial account at the time of authorization.
Payment card
"Payment card" refers to a card or other access device connected to an account holder's financial accounts under a card product.
Physical card
"Physical card" refers to a physical payment card issued to an account holder or authorized user.
Product funding account
"Product funding account" is a financial account used as a funding source for a card product. The funds in a product funding account can be distributed to account holder financial accounts.
Pseudo balance
"Pseudo balance" refers to the Highnote card product feature that allows setting spend limits of financial accounts using on-demand funding.
Rewards
"Rewards" refers to Highnote's integrated cash-back rewards card product feature.
Spend rules
"Spend rules" refers to the Highnote card product feature that allows setting business logic to permit or restrict authorizations.
Source financial account
"Source financial account" refers to a card product financial account used to fund an account holder's financial account with the on-demand funding feature enabled. The source financial account provides real-time funding by utilizing internal Highnote transfers.
Velocity controls
"Velocity controls" refers to the Highnote card product feature that allows volume and frequency limits on transactions during specific time frames to be set.
Virtual card
"Virtual card" refers to a payment card that can be used online, in an app, or for "machine-to-machine" payments.
